What a beautiful place! I’ll be posting more about my trip to the Philippines later. For now I want to share with you a really cool experience.
Local entrepreneurs have started an El Nido Chamber of Commerce. They’re less than a year old, and one of the projects they’re actively working on is the preservation of coral reefs in Palawan.
When we as tourists visit, many of us board boats and go island hopping, enjoying the truly incredible volcanic formations that dot the coast. When the boat anchors for us to jump in and snorkel, where there is no mooring buoy, the coral reef is damaged.
The young El Nido chamber decided to make and sell t-shirts to gather funds and help add more mooring buoys, thus preventing damage and enabling coral and seagrass restoration.
I love love love their focus on developing Palawan while protecting the natural resources that are theirs and indeed all of ours. I bought two (one for the hubbs).
Entrepreneurs of El Nido, thank you for your efforts!
